The overall mission statement of Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is: ‘To explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life’. This mission addresses the major challenges facing the world today: to provide a growing population with sufficiently healthy nutrition and to maintain or create a sustainable living environment. Our ambition is to be a world leader in sustainable food and non-food production. WUR is a collaboration between Wageningen University and Wageningen Research. The strength of this collaboration is the joined forces of specialized research institutes and the University so that scientific breakthroughs can quickly be put into practice and incorporated into education. This intensive cooperation under a single brand, Wageningen University & Research, is unique in the world and has been instrumental in achieving the leading position that WUR has.
Wageningen University & Research is participating in the MicrobiomeSupport Association via the Wageningen Microbiome Center (WMC). The Wageningen Microbiome Center was officially launched in 2024 and is a ccollaboration between Wageningen University & Research, the UNLOCK infrastructure for microbiome research, as well as the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW). WMC envisions to act as a new interdisciplinary interface for innovation within the (inter)national microbiome research community and to contribute to subsequent valorization by industrial partners. This enables the translation of fundamental knowledge about microbiomes into practical solutions for many societal challenges.
